On A Photo Shoot & New Online Shop

I'm super lucky to be surrounded by so many creative people - many of my friends that studied graphic design with me and other creatives that have come into my life over the years are all very very, special to me.

So when I was approached by the lovely people over at Hello Pretty to set up a shop on their website - I new I needed some really awesome photos of my Lime Green Bean goodies.. and .. ta daaaa! my awesome friends came to the rescue!

They have started a little business or group if you will called the "Kiki Klub" Check out their cool logo:

How cool is that? It's four K's for each of the four members that form an aperture of a camera! I totally love it!

So I went to their studio one Sunday afternoon and they snapped away and did their magic..

I took these photos of them just for this post an to introduce them all to you!

Below.. (from top left - right) is Kevin (Kev) with my stylish over sized red handbag.. next is Veronique (V) with their cool Kiki Klub branded stuffers.. and below is Gideon (Giddie) with Buzz Lightyear and V again. The fourth Kiki Klubber - Danie (Daanster) was unfortunately not able to make it on the day!

and here.. are just a few of the amazing photos they took for me..

So if you are looking for some really super photographs, be sure to get into contact with them.. they are awesome..

..and of course..

pop over to http://hellopretty.co.za/ and have a look at all the amazing goodies for sale, and have a lookie at my Lime Green Bean goodies that are currently available and all the pretty photos of them!

Take care,
Bean

Special Custom T-shirt Orders - A Unicorn & Rainbow

I just love getting special custom orders for kids tee's because it gives me an opportunity to make something extra special that I know will be really appreciated!

Most of the custom t-shirt orders I get are for birthdays or other special occasions, and the one below is no different - except - it is honestly my favourite, favourite custom t-shirt that I have ever had to make. I just love it to much!

I wanted to share how exactly I go about making these special custom t-shirts, because a great deal of love goes into making them and it certainly doesn't happen overnight!

So.. firstly, I get a special request from someone in an email for a custom t-shirt, and sometimes they even send a photo or image of what they want. This is usually great news for me because it gives me a better idea of what I am going to make. I also ask if there are any specific colours that they want me to use and gently remind them that I am unable to copy an image, but will gladly make my own interpretation of the image for them.

This special custom tee was for a little girl named Hannah, and her mom wanted it for her fourth birthday party, which  was a "Rainbow and Unicorn" theme!.. Of course I was SMITTEN! I love rainbows and unicorns so you can imagine my excitement!

So, the first step is to draw an image of what the tee will look like - like this:

Then I put in the other details

.. and email it to the client to have a look at and let me know if I am on the right track.

Then I make a "stencil" with the paper drawing and use it to cut out the felt... like so:

I place the felt pieces onto the custom t-shirt and pin them in place. I send another photo of this to the client to confirm they are happy with the colours and so forth before I start sewing - 100% BY HAND :)

After many hours.. ta daaaaa!!!

It's done! I send a sneak preview to the client in another photo and then off if goes into the post, ready to make a little girl very happy!

Isn't little Hannah just the cutest ever! I am so glad that Lime Green Bean could make her day extra special!!

I really love this custom tee - I should have made one for myself!  A BIG thank you to Hannah's mom and to Red Dot Photography for allowing me to use these photos!

Have a happy day and may your days be filled with rainbows and unicorns too!

A lovely Market Day!

Lime Green Bean was delighted (to say the very least) to be at the Blos Mark this past Saturday.

It was amazing – the atmosphere was so relaxed and really reminded me of my many years in Cape Town!

There was so much fun for the kids and they were literally standing in queues to have their faces painted and when I saw how amazing they looked, I kind of wished I could have mine done too!!

There were also balloon animals for all the kids and of course the piñata was an absolute hoot! It took many a man to get that piñata open, but you can just imagine the elation thereafter!

Lime Green Bean stand

I really, really loved being there – the people were so friendly and loved my Lime Green Bean goodies – thank you all for your amazing support!

I just loved my little “shop” for the day – I worked really really hard, but it was SO worth it!

The Onesies were a real hit!

Lots of felt food and handmade clips!

Felt food display.. good enough to eat!

Bean Buddy Brooch kits

The market was perfectly organised and everything was beautifully presented and catered for. The Jazz band was awesome, and everyone brought their blankets and just relaxed under the big trees and had a really relaxing day .. and the food.. oh .. don’t get me started on the food..

I am happy to say that Lime Green Bean will certainly be at the next Blos Mark and I really hope to see you all there!

Take care,
Bean

What I think about when I am sewing...

When you are going something you really love to do, what do you think about? Perhaps you think about what you are going to make for dinner, or the heaps of work that are waiting for you at your office tomorrow..

When I am sewing a new custom tee for one of my clients I think about many things. Mostly I think about what the little person I am creating this t-shirt looks is like. Does he or she look like his mommy or his daddy?  What makes him laugh and what does this wide world hold for him or her..

I also think about my Ouma Julie, who was the kindest most amazing person I know. I always think that if I can only be half the person she was, I know I am a good, kind, considerate person.

To be honest I say a little prayer. I pray that the little person wearing my tee will be blessed endlessly with joy and love, and that the world will be kind to him or her  and they will grow up doing what they love, like I do. Little people are so special. They need to be nurtured and loved while they explore the wide world.

It makes me so happy to get emails from my clients with a photo of their happy little person wearing my tee, and when I received these photos today, I was so honoured. Look how cute he is!!!

Bless you little Wally! I am sure you bring your family heaps of joy, you sweet little guy!

Have a look at my facebook page for more photos’s sent by my lovely clients of their kids in my custom tees. Please feel free to send me photo's of your kiddo's in Lime Green Bean tee's to info<at>limegreenbean<dot>co<dot>za

Take care,
Bean

I'm still here!

Okay.. So I’ve been missing in action for quite a while now and I have to admit that I have been really busy with other design work for the past month or so. Its super good news for my other business, but BAD news for the uuber creative side of me.
I also need to say that my debut at the Rosemary Manor Market went poo and I was so, so disappointed!! If only I had the skills and the time to market Lime Green Bean properly! In the mean time, you should really check out their FAB new website..
Anywho.. I’m picking myself up and looking forward. I’m not totally out of my creative slump, (or lack thereof) and I am going to use this blog to display things I love, and things that I l want and things that make me happy! Like shopping (well at least with my eyes for now) sewing, gardening, baking, being creative and just being ME! So there!
Plus, I was so so happy to see that I have my very first follower! Well, Juanita.. you REALLY made my day.. no my YEAR!! THANK YOU!!!
So I actually sort of finished a painting that I have been working on since last year, and I’m so glad I worked on it a bit. Painting, much like ice cream with sprinkles.. are one of those small things that make me happy!

My Protea. Acrylic on canvas. Size approx 90cm x 120 cm. A work in progress..

Have a great day now!
